Welcome everyone to the official Mauch Chunk Opera House blog.
Just a little history to all that are stumbling upon this blog. The Mauch Chunk Opera House (pronounced M-A-K Chunk) is one of America's oldest Vaudeville venues that was built in 1881 in the historic town of Jim Thorpe, PA (formerly Mauch Chunk). It is owned and operated as a not- for -profit by the Mauch Chunk Historical Society whose aim is to preserve the rich history of the town.
Over the years this theater has been lovingly restored and is now a nationally recognized venue for live music and theater. Many original singer and songwriters, as well as tribute bands, grace our stage to entertain both our local audience and the many tourist that come here. It is truly a beautiful venue with some of the best acoustics around. Most recently , the international recording artists The Wailin' Jennies, have preformed and recorded their upcoming album live in our theater.

We have an all volunteer staff and board that works on many different aspects for the Society and the Opera House, including concession, maintenance, marketing and publicity and in just about any other capacity that we would require assistance. We have many regular attendees to our show, as well as a constant stream of new people who discover our great town, it's heritage and the beauty of the Opera House.
My name is Tara and I am a new member of the Board of Directors. I'm very excited to be a part of the Opera House and the Society and I intend to blog about all the Opera House performers and any up coming events, including our annual Victorian Ball (I'm very excited about this) and many other events we have in the works to bring to our audiences.
